Choosing your SQL Server Edition
Most small to medium size businesses can use the free edition of SQL Server called SQL Express. SQL Express does have some limitations. SQL Express is limited to using 4 CPU cores and does have memory allocation limits. It is also limited to a maximum database size of 10GB. Please note that once your database reaches the 10GB size SQL Express shuts down. If your current database size is close to 10GB or if your store has a high transaction volume it is highly recommended you purchase one of the SQL Standard editions.
If you are above the 10GB limit you will need to purchase one of the SQL Standard editions. SQL Standard can be purchased directly from Microsoft or from many other technology companies. Tri-Tech is not a reseller of SQL Server.
If you plan to use active-e services or active-e Mobile Applications you can use SQL Express or SQL Standard (licensed by CPU core). You should not purchase SQL Standard (licensed by server + users).
In AIMsi you can go to Help>About AIMsi-Pro v11.0 to see your current database size. During test conversions we have seen databases convert to approximately the same size and other increase in size up to 25%. You should allow a growth factor of up to 25% when determining if you can use SQL Express or not.
During the AIM v12 installation process you can optionally download and install the SQL Server Express edition. If you are using the SQL Server Standard edition you will obtain the installation from whoever you purchased it from.
